Alumni Tracking System

The Graduate Program in Analysis and Modeling of Environmental Systems (PPG-AMSA) at the Institute of Geosciences/UFMG was established in 2007, having conducted 140 master’s defenses by the end of 2020. In 2018, the doctoral program was created, and we currently have 23 enrolled students, with interest in our doctoral selection process steadily increasing since its inception. In 2020, we had 174 candidates registered for two announcements (one related to the CAPES/EPIDEMIAS project and the regular selection process).

To create this Alumni Profile, the PPG-AMSA coordination mapped the former students by sending out two questionnaires (2016 and 2020) and updating contacts through consultations of their professional profiles on social media. The following online platforms were consulted: Currículo Lattes, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, Orcid, LinkedIn, and the transparency websites of the Federal Government, the State of Minas Gerais, and the Municipality of Belo Horizonte, as well as transparency sites of other municipalities, states, and public companies when necessary. After this social media data collection, to complete the missing information for 27 alumni, the PPG requested the participation of their advisors to make contact and also sent direct emails to former students. Using these different strategies, information was compiled for 135 out of 140 alumni (96%), noting that one alumna, Valéria Soares de Melo Franco, passed away in 2019.

The Alumni Profile includes information on gender, ethnicity, undergraduate degree, continuation of studies after defense, the institutions where alumni work, their roles, and other data concerning students who defended their master’s theses between 2009 and 2020.
