Internationalization
The internationalization efforts of PPG-AMSA aim to support the program’s visibility through the participation of faculty and students in international events and publications, as well as through the adoption of internal measures that, albeit slowly, are enabling the program to host foreign students and researchers.
In 2020, PPG was working on the administrative procedures to hire a foreign visiting professor who will be allocated exclusively to PPG-AMSA. This resulted from an application in 2018 for an internal UFMG call where it won an “International Professorship.” The selected candidate was Professor Sergio Villamayor Tomas (https://ictaweb.uab.cat/personal_detail.php?id=4066) from ICTA in Barcelona, who will be a visiting professor in our program for a period of up to three years starting in 2021.
During the four-year period, we welcomed student Ivo Verhaar from Avans University in the Netherlands (https://www.avans.nl/international), who completed his internship as part of the Biobased Brazil Program. His work at PPG-AMSA was integrated into the Long-Term Ecological Studies Program (PELD) taking place in the Rio Doce State Park (PERD), MG. Ivo participated alongside master’s and doctoral students in the development of participatory scenarios for the surrounding area of PERD.
During the four-year period, PPG-AMSA enrolled seven foreign master’s students:
- Adolfo Andres Hincapie Garcia (Colombia)
- Castigo David Augusto Machava (Mozambique)
- Gustavo Adolfo Tinoco Martinez (Colombia)
- Juan David Mendez Quintero (Colombia)
- Miluska Blas Leon (Peru)
- Thomas Lloyd Rickard (United Kingdom)
- Trevor Ray Tisler (United States)
Foreign students enrolled in the doctoral program during the four-year period:
- Thomas Lloyd Rickard (United Kingdom)
- Anacleto Marito Diogo (Angola)
