SeloVerde began as an online platform designed to assess the socio-environmental compliance of all properties registered in Brazil’s Rural Environmental Registry (CAR) and to provide traceability for agricultural production. Today, it has evolved considerably, becoming a scalable technology that can be customized to meet the specific needs of each Brazilian state.
By integrating public databases and applying cutting-edge geospatial algorithms, SeloVerde provides information on the environmental status of rural properties while safeguarding sensitive commercial and personal data.
By simply entering a property’s CAR registration code, anyone can access an official report containing indicators of the property’s and its production’s level of socio-environmental compliance.
Because it is public and free of charge, SeloVerde can be easily used to support due diligence processes across commodity supply chains. The states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, for example, have integrated a functionality that allows users to generate an official state-issued document that can be attached to export procedures.
This enables producers who previously lacked the means to demonstrate the sustainability of their production to do so in a simple, recognized, and free manner, allowing them to access more demanding markets.
In 2025, SeloVerde received technical recognition from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) as one of the best and most innovative practices and approaches for promoting global food security, sustainable development, and the transformation of agrifood systems, in the category of Land, Soil, and Water Resources Management for Resilient Agriculture and Food Security.
