The Digital Rural Addressing (ERD) platform of Minas Gerais is designed for consulting and managing an official, unique digital address for rural properties registered in the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR). The ERD enables the delivery of packages and mail, and facilitates access to emergency services such as ambulances, fire departments, and police.
The system integrates “Plus Codes” technology with data from CAR, Cemig, the Agricultural Institute of Minas Gerais (IMA), and IBGE, and includes algorithms that trace the closest point from the rural property’s entrance to the nearest access road. A Plus Code is a short alphanumeric code derived from geographic coordinates that identifies any location on Earth, even where there are no named streets or street numbers.
The ERD-MG platform features two core functionalities: the primary function is looking up an address using the CAR code or the property’s geolocation; the second function—which requires registration as an individual or legal entity legally responsible for the property—allows users to define and modify the exact location linked to the address, such as the entrance, main homestead, or another reference point.
The tool was developed through a partnership between the CSR, the Territorial Intelligence Center, and the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply of the State of Minas Gerais (SEAPA-MG).
