Researcher Laura Bachi’s thesis, entitled “The Role Of Tourism And Sociobiodiversity For Rural Development In Brazil”, received an honorable mention in the CAPES Thesis Award 2024. The work, supervised by CSR researcher Professor Sónia Carvalho-Ribeiro, was developed in 2023 in the Postgraduate Program in Analysis and Modeling of Environmental Systems. On August 29th, 2024, CSR researcher Argemiro Teixeira Leite-Filho will speak at the Technical-Scientific Seminar on Control and Transparency of Vegetation Suppression Authorizations. The event will take place at IBAMA headquarters in Brasília, and our researcher will be part of Panel 1: General Overview of Deforestation in the Cerrado and its Impacts alongside Cláudio Almeida (INPE) and Samuel Caetano (CNPCT), moderated by Isabel Figueiredo (ISPN). Important names linked to the environmental agenda from all over Brazil will be gathered at this event, check out the schedule.
On August 22th, 2024, took place in Pará the event to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Meat Conduct Adjustment Term (TAC) with the announcement of updated rules to facilitate the participation of more meatpacking plants. CSR is proud to be part of this history by supporting the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office through the development of the term’s monitoring platform, Mappia TAC, aiming at transparency regarding the evolution of compliance with environmental legislation by meatpacking plants operating in the Amazon.
CSR was present, represented by researcher Felipe Nunes, at the launch of the Soybean Traceability System – Selo Verde of the Government of the State of Maranhão on August 21th, 2024. SIFMA-Selo Verde is a system of the State Secretariat for the Environment and Natural Resources that uses SeloVerde technology developed at CSR and aims to contribute to greater transparency in the soybean chain in Maranhão.

The SeloVerde Pará platform was presented during the AWS re:Invent 2023 event, in Las Vegas, USA, during the session “Slowing down deforestation by using AI, ML, and open source data”. Researcher Felipe Nunes spoke about the innovative nature of the platform and how it works, integration of public data, expansion to other states and products, in addition to highlighting the importance of partnerships for the development of solutions like this, which promote transparency in global supply chains. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is an important partner in the SeloVerde Pará project and AWS re:Invent is the largest global cloud computing conference promoted annually by the company.

On January 19th, 2021, CSR researcher Argemiro Teixeira gave a lecture to students of Landscape Analysis discipline of the Environmental Engineering bachelor’s degree course at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE).
The lecture “Tools for analysis and management of the landscape” highlighted the use of Dinamica EGO in the analysis and management of the landscape, in addition to the potential application of the software in modeling changes in land use and occupation.
The main CSR research themes were also presented along with how studies involving landscape ecology and simulation of future scenarios can support the discussion of more effective public policies.
