Created in 1989, the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park covers 33 thousand hectares with beautiful geologic formations and great diversity of fauna and flora of the Cerrado biome. Located across the municipalities of Cuiabá and the historical city of Chapada dos Guimarães in the state of Mato Grosso, the park protects the headwaters of important rivers that flow to the Pantanal basin and supply Cuiabá, the capital of Mato Grosso. In addition to nature preservation and archeological sites, the Park is open to visitation and allows educational activities and scientific research.
