Created in 2002, the Sempre-Vivas National Park is located in the Serra do Espinhaço ridge, covering 124 thousand hectares across the municipalities of Diamantina, Buenópolis, Bocaiúva, and Olhos d’Água in Minas Gerais. The Park shelters various ecosystems of great ecological importance, such as the high-altitude rupestrian fields with its endemic fauna, including four species of amphibians and two of birds, and flora as well, of which the flowers popularly called “sempre-vivas” lend the park its name and whose harvest is a source of income for traditional communities in the region. The Park supports scientific research, educational activities, and ecotourism.
